Another change of plans

Saturday morning we were packed up and ready to head south to Anchorage. We had a great visit here in Denali but we were ready to move on. Our truck had different ideas. On Friday, we had driven south to a city, Cantwell, to buy gas and view the countryside. On the way home, suddenly the motor to the truck stopped without warning. After a short time, Glen got the motor started and we drove back to the campground. On Saturday morning, the truck idled well for several minutes but when Glen took it on a test drive, the motor stopped three times within a short distance. We contacted our emergency road service and a tow truck drove up within an hour or so, loaded up the truck, and toted it off to Fairbanks.

We don't know how long we will be here, but we are thankful that we were not on the road when the truck broke down. There are many, very remote stretches of road where we would have been very out of touch if the breakdown had happened there. While prices are very high here, we do have two grocery stores, shuttle bus service to the park, several good places to eat, and numberous nice gift shops to explore.

We even had a fellow RVer who brought his space heater to us to use so that we don't use up all our propane for the furnace and stove. The temperatures have turned cold (39' yesterday morning) and it's damp after recent rainstorms. But we are doing well, just not doing what we want to do where we want to be. We missed our appointment to have the water tank replaced and will miss our camping reservation in salmon fishing country this week, but we are safe and comfortable and for that, we are very thankful.
